Curious Theatre Collective is seeking a script writer for a short audio play!
The Curious Theatre Collective (http://curioustheatrecollective.com) writes and produces shows for young audiences that “tell the stories of remarkable women.”
CTC performed two live shows pre-COVID, and recently received a grant from the Orange County Arts Commission to create two audio plays. We have finished the pilot play, and we are now moving on to producing a second one.**
Curious Theatre Collective is now seeking a script writer for our next short audio play. We are looking for a ~10 minute piece, aimed at late elementary or early middle school, told by 1 narrator or up to 3 actors. The “remarkable woman” would be up to the writer, though we’d be happy to help with suggestions.
Some of the women we’ve featured in our live shows are Peggy Shepard, Sally Ride, Mae Jemison, and Rachel Carson. The woman featured in this next audio drama could be alive or dead, she just has to be remarkable! (Bonus points for a woman who is North Carolinian.)
We welcome all submissions, especially from writers who identify as BIPOC, women & underrepresented genders, LGBTQIA, disabled, and writers from all marginalized groups.
**Our first audio play is Creekside with Winona and it focuses on the environmentalist Winona LaDuke, who visits a fictional girl Mia and her ailing creek, with themes of problem solving and kid activism.

Payment: $200
Timeline:
- Submissions due: June 28
- Notifications: July 5
- 1st Draft of script: July 20
- Final Draft of script: August 3
- Release of audio play: Fall 2021
How to submit for consideration:
Please email curioustheatrecollective@gmail.com by June 28 with the following:
- Writing sample (2-5 pages)
- A short description of the woman you’d like to feature in your audio drama and why you chose that person. Please include if you intend to write a multi-person scene, use a single narrator, or something else altogether!
Additional thoughts:
We are really excited to be able to offer something that can be used in the classroom during these semi/virtual times, but also moving forward, we want our material to be accessible to teachers and schools who might not be able to have the whole group out for a big assembly.
With the grant funding, Curious Theatre Collective can cover the cost of producing the plays, so we are going to be able to offer this content for free to anyone who wants to use it, which we’re very excited about.
