The Declaration of Love Project is an anthology of 11 short audio pieces written by North Carolina playwrights all inspired by the same writing prompt — “declaration of love.”

Episode 6, written by Jack Reitz is titled Open Book.

Open Book is a quirky and comedic encounter between a woman and her new brother-in-law and asks how much we really need (or want!) to know about our family.

Jack Reitz (Playwright, Open Book): Jack is an actor, writer, and improvisor based Durham, NC. He is a stakeholder with Mettlesome (, a collective of artists producing smart and funny work in Durham. 

Abbey Toot (Actor, Open Book): Abbey is a teaching artist currently teaching, acting, vocal coaching and directing in the Raleigh/Triangle area of North Carolina. She teaches Voice and Speech at Elon University and has taught Acting, Voice, Speech and other classes at UC Irvine, UNC Chapel Hill and USCB. She teaches singing lessons through Kathleen’s Piano & Voice Studio. Abbey is certified in Miller Voice Method (inaugural cohort) and has extensive training in Fitzmaurice Voicework, Knight/Thompson Speechwork, Linklater and other voice methodologies. Abbey plays Amy in Open Book.

Dan Toot (Actor, Open Book): Dan  is an Actor, Musician and Educator based in Carrboro. He received his MFA at UNC Chapel Hill, his BFA from the Hartt School, and is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy. He is represented by Talent One, and you can learn more at Dan plays Carey in Open Book.

This audio drama was adapted from Tamara’s 2018 stage play produced by Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern and inspired by Henrick Ibsen’s classic, The Master Builder published in 1892.


Declaration of Love

Co-producers Aurelia Belfield and Tamara Kissane of Artist Soapbox commissioned eleven NC playwrights to craft short audio scenes based on the prompt “Declaration of Love.”


Food for Thought

Three pilot episodes of new scripted audio fiction series inspired by the prompt Food for Thought.


ASBX Shorts

ASBX Shorts are six short audio fiction pieces created and produced by North Carolina artists. Artist Soapbox Shorts were specifically contributed by the artists to aid in fundraising and to get everyone excited about Jesus Pancake, our new audio fiction series in development.
