Tamara Kissane:

This is Artist Soapbox. Through interviews and original scripted audio fiction. We deliver stories that speak to your hearts and your minds. Hey Soapboxers. It's Tamara here with a quick season 2022 wrap up in this short little episode, I'm gonna include a hodgepodge of season related thoughts, some numbers, what's next recommendations, cetera. It's a little formless jumble of gratitude in audio form. Yep. This year we started a season model here at Artist Soapbox, starting at the beginning of May and ending at the end of August. I'm really happy with that rhythm. It gives us an opportunity to work on other projects and to plan the next season. And it gives you the opportunity to catch up on any episodes that you missed during your busy summer. As I mentioned at the beginning of this season, artist soapbox is continuing to grow and evolve. We still have an interview podcast and we still produce scripted audio fiction, but we continue to tweak the knobs on the who, what, when, where, and how of all of that. We continue to love our new dynamic logo and branding materials and our fancy website. If you haven't seen those, then hop over to artist soapbox.org and enjoy everything is so pretty while you are there. Please subscribe to our newsletter, which I send out about once a. Sadly, our old email list did not transfer when we transitioned to our new website host. So we are slowly building it back. And of course, please subscribe to this podcast via your favorite podcast platform, because we will be back for another season that you won't want to miss. If you have been listening, you'll know that this season we featured four incredible guest hosts who really knocked it out of the park. Big thanks to Lormarev Jones, Griffin James, Juliana Finch, and Mara Thomas for their professionalism, thoughtfulness and general awesomeness. I'd be really curious to hear what you think, but I feel like this season's interviews were so encouraging, positive affirming, and very importantly, practical the conversations included so many tools and tips that you can put to use. One of our catch phrases for Artist Soapbox is "practical tools for the creative process". And I feel like we really delivered on that this season with lots of humor and lovely conversation as bonuses. If an episode sparked something for you, please share it with your friends and family. The most meaningful kind of publicity is a simple recommendation from one person to another. That is how we find our audience and spread the. If you would like to send your feedback, then it is feedback gathering time. I will be meeting with our four awesome guest hosts in the next week or so to debrief on this season and plan for the next one. And we'd love to have your feedback to help guide that conversation. Artist Soapbox is on all the socials of course, and you'll see those links in the show notes. You can also reach me at artist soapbox at Gmail. Dot com. Alrighty. Here's a little season recap. If you like some numbers in season 2022, Artist Soapbox featured four scripted audio fiction episodes, which include three from the food for thought project. And one from curious theater collective ,four amazing guest hosts, which I already mentioned, two guest blog posts. That's right. We're still blogging. 17 interview episodes episodes 1 53 to 1 69 from May 2nd to August 29th. See, I didn't even include this one. So I guess it will be kind of 18 episodes. People listened in from 31 countries, 38 US states. Very cool. I'm sure you've been waiting for an update about the first season of Jesus pancake, our original scripted audio fiction series. Yes. As always, we are in post-production for Jesus pancake. We have a trailer completed, which is amazing. All the intro and outros done, and a first round of edits for all nine episodes at this very moment. I'm actually working on episode six, I'm pulling together a second round of notes to give to our awesome sound designer. And then we'll do another listen after that, there is so much listening As a reminder, Jesus pancake was made possible by the generous support of our Indiegogo campaign support. Andy grant from the man bites dog theater fund. I'm sending massive gratitude to them every day. And in all the ways another project on the horizon is ASB X live. This will be a live audio drama event on March 4th, 2023. Co-produced by artist soapbox and capital arts theater Guild. ASB X live will be an evening of theatrical fun. Featuring live presentations of two original audio dramas written by North Carolina writers. These live performances will be recorded and released to the public in podcast form later in 2023. So hopefully you can be there if you're local and if not, you can still join in on the fun. We released the podcasts. Currently, we are reviewing scripts for the ASB X live event. Once the two scripts are selected, we'll ramp up casting, build a team and start rehearsals to stay in the loop about this event and others subscribe to the newsletter. As I mentioned, follow us on the socials, etcetera. Alrighty. Just a couple of personal items to catch you up on. If you are curious. Oh, and. Two podcast recommendations. So let's do the podcasts first. If you like fiction podcasts and you are looking for something very fun, clever snarky, and from the UK, then I recommend Madam magenta, Sonos Mystica here's the description. "Madam magenta, psychic medium and inventor of the drink along audio book reads her best selling books with support from her adoringhusband, Bernard." In one of the reviews, someone described Madam magenta as "beautifully chaotic". And I concur. It's super fun. If you like fiction podcasts and you are looking for something smart, heartfelt, deep, and sciencey, then I recommend midnight burger. Here's the description. "When Gloria took a waitressing job at a diner outside Phoenix, she didn't realize she was now an employee of midnight burger, a time traveling dimension, spanning diner." One reviewer describes midnight burger this way "the general narrative addresses the fundamental issues of existence with no pretension". Yep. I would describe it that way too. So make sure you start from the beginning of each of these episode one season one, um, because they are cumulative experiences. So start from the beginning and carry on. They both have several seasons. I also wanna recommend a series of workshops being led by my friend, Allison Kirkland the workshops are called writing the body, a creative writing workshop for women writers. It's gonna happen on Thursday evenings from six 30 to 8:30 PM. Eastern standard on zoom. So you don't have to be local beginning October 13th. There's an application and it closes on October 5th. I'm gonna read the description because I think it's really beautiful. And it'll give you a sense of allison and of what you will get from experiencing her class. Okay. "Writing the body. What does it mean to have a body in the world? How can we find language for the experiences of our bodies? How can we reclaim the stories of our bodies from whoever else might be telling them? Sometimes we don't think of all the different bodies that exist in the world. Pregnant bodies, postpartum bodies, disabled bodies, bodies with needs that feel like too much. Radicalized bodies, trans bodies, immigrant bodies, bodies at rest bodies in motion bodies also have different ways of existing in the world. Bodies change over time. Bodies have histories. In this generative class, we will use writing exercises, prompts, and selected readings to process and communicate the experience of having a body, whatever that might mean to you. Additionally, this class will offer a way to practice a more embodied. Writing and reading experience. This class is suitable for beginners and more experienced students come prepared to read and write. It is open to adult means 18 years. Plus women writers, 12 students maximum. "I will include the links in the show notes. I know that you will enjoy Alison Kirkland. We're in a writing group together, and she has been featured on the podcast and she is totally cool. Oh, okay. For me, we are still settling into our new house. We moved in April. We're very happy. My children just started school last week, and that is quite good for all of us. I still have those two kids and a spouse, but since we've moved, we added a cat, which brings us to three cats. Six chickens and two quail. I don't know. What am I even doing out here in this semi rural location? I dunno, I am still working on the new musical commissioned by honest pint theater. We had a great workshop of a way home at NC state theater Fest over the summer. And now the fabulous composer, Matthew Hager, and I are continuing to revise and create in preparation for another showing of some kind in 2023. Ooh, boy, writing a musical is a long process friends. It is awesome. It is amazing, but you definitely need to wear your patience pants to walk down the musical theater writing path. Oh my Ooh, that metaphor. That's that's a good one. Okay. And with that very poor metaphor, I will wrap up friends. Thank you so much for sticking with. This season, if you are a fan of artist soapbox, please become a patron on Patreon. Please see the link in the show notes. There is work being done and monthly costs that never go away even when we aren't releasing episodes. So we would sure appreciate your support to keep us going. And as I did at the beginning of the season, I'm including our highlight reel at the end of this episode, because I love it. And I think it's a great way to close out. Thank you so much. Be in touch and enjoy. Artist soapbox creates original scripted audio fiction with immersive sound design from limited series to serials, anthologies, and shorts. Who around here has the, the, the, the, the vision, the talent, the imagination to make masterpiece. Trust me for those of you just joining us. It's late night and we are live.
