There’s so much to be excited about this week, I hardly have words to express the size of my gratitude Please celebrate with me, and lift a glass to the people in the arts community who are creating opportunities for local artists. Cheers!
FUNDING
Artist Soapbox/Soapbox Audio Collective received a generous grant from Manbites Dog Theater to record and produce our second audio drama: THE NEW COLOSSUS (based on Anton Chekhov’s classic THE SEAGULL).
As promised upon its closing last year, Durham’s venerable independent theater has returned as a funding organization, and it’s seeding projects by a stellar array of local performers. (Byron Woods, INDY Week)

PUBLICITY
Tamara was profiled in INDY Week. Wow, what a gift.
But now, if you want to experience The Master Builder, all that has to align is your cursor and the play button of an online audio player, any time you want, at no cost.
That’s just one of the reasons why Kissane turned her script into an audio drama, released in July on her podcast Artist Soapbox. But in an area where independent artists are strapped for money, time, and space—and in a culture where arts access has risen to the top of the discourse—it might be the most important reason. (Brian Howe, INDY Week)

READING
The first three episodes of Tamara’s serial audio drama, JESUS PANCAKE, will be read by University Theatre students at NC State this Friday. It’s been an amazing opportunity to hear the script read aloud in rehearsal. We’re hoping to have the first season completed by spring of next year.
“The Open Door Series presents a reading of “Jesus Pancake,” an audio drama written by local playwright Tamara Kissane. Aimee is intrigued when a pancake she makes looks just like Jesus, but when her wishes start coming true, she realizes something truly profound is at work.”
